  • Lates calcarifer, also known as Asian Seabass in Asia and Barramundi in Australia, plays a crucial role in the sustainability mission. This large, euryhaline fish species is widely distributed across the Indo-West Pacific region. Aquaculture of Barramundi began in the 1970s in Thailand and has since spread across Southeast Asia.
  • In 2018, the company established a Barramundi hatchery in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, becoming South Asia’s first commercial-scale open-sea farmer. Our unique approach ensures the production of strong and fast-growing fingerlings capable of withstanding the challenging open sea-cage conditions. This is in stark contrast to hatcheries operating in sterile conditions, often in landlocked areas, ill-suited to the fingerlings’ future conditions.
  • Situated on the eastern seaboard of Sri Lanka, the hatchery draws open-sea water for its operations. It is strategically positioned within a major aquaculture hub in South Asia, benefiting from a geographical advantage.
