In the season from April to August, Sri Lankan fishing takes a different rhythm.
This time isn’t the peak season for fishing, but it still offers some fresh most flavorful catches to the local fishermen.
As the ocean currents change and the weather patterns shift, certain fish become more abundant in Sri Lankan waters during these months.
Among the catches during this time are popular species like Skipjack Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Indian Mackerel, various species of prawns and crabs which roam the seas in search of food.
Fishermen venture out to sea, braving the changing weather conditions, to bring in these fresh catches for local and export markets and restaurants.
While it might not be as bustling as the peak fishing season, April to August still provides opportunities for fishermen to sustain their livelihoods and for seafood lovers to enjoy the taste of the ocean. So, even though it’s not the busiest time of the year for fishing in Sri Lanka, there’s still plenty of fresh seafood to savor during these months.
